The rise of Dutch-Moroccan organized crime networks in Europe
The term "Mocro Maffia" refers to Dutch-Moroccan organized crime networks that have risen to dominate the European cocaine trade since the 2010s. These networks control the import of cocaine through the ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp, generating billions in revenue. The organizations are known for extreme violence, including public assassinations, torture, and intimidation. The murder of journalist Peter R. de Vries in 2021 and lawyer Derk Wiersum in 2019 shocked the Netherlands and exposed the reach of these networks into the heart of Dutch society.
